Valerie Mendoza

Dr. Valerie M. Mendoza is the Director of a Title III Grant for Washburn University, co-owner of The Other Roads Historical Consulting, and host of the Big Idea for Humanities Kansas. Originally from Kansas, Dr. Mendoza received her PhD in history from the University of California, Berkeley, and has served as a history professor at various universities specializing in 20th Century US history and Latinx studies. Along with Norma E. Cantu, she co-edited a special volume of the American Studies Journal of Latinx social justice issues published in the fall 2017. At Humanities Kansas she sparked the conversation with projects such as Camina Conmigo/Walk with me driving tour of Latino Cultural sites in Kansas City Latino History of Kansas City - Clio. Dr. Mendoza also served as historian for the short documentary “Our Lady of Guadalupe in the Lives of Mexican American Women in Kansas” filmed in the summer of 2016, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6toARl9_L8.
