Jeffrey L. Pasley

Jeffrey L. Pasley is Professor and Kinder Institute Chair of Early American History at the University of Missouri. A graduate of Carleton College and Harvard University, he is the author of the award-winning books, “The Tyranny of Printers”: Newspaper Politics in the Early American Republic, and The First Presidential Contest: The Election of 1796 and the Beginnings of American Democracy, a finalist for the 2014 George Washington Book Prize. Before entering academia, he learned about journalism and politics directly as a reporter-researcher for The New Republic and as a speechwriter for Al Gore’s 1988 presidential campaign.
