Henrietta Rix Wood is an associate teaching professor in the Honors College of the University of Missouri-Kansas City and associate faculty for the UMKC Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program. Wood teaches courses in writing, rhetoric, literature, and history, and her research interests include Kansas City history and the history of women and persuasive discourse in the United States. She is the author of Praising Girls: The Rhetoric of Young Women, 1895-1930 (Southern Illinois University Press, 2016) and the co-editor of In the Archives of Composition: Writing and Rhetoric in High Schools and Normal Schools (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2015); her work also has appeared in American Periodicals and Rhetoric Review.  In her previous career, Wood was a reporter for the Kansas City Star and two publications in Dallas.
