Myrtle Bennett

Portrait photograph of Myrtle Bennett. Mrs. Bennett shot and killed her husband John G. Bennett on September 29, 1929, in a quarrel over a bridge game. She was acquitted. This photo sat on the dresser in her apartment and was used in the Journal-Post coverage of the murder and trial. The trial took place in the Criminal Court building, Jackson County, Missouri, February and March of 1931. See page 24, Kansas City Journal-Post, February 27, 1931. This photo was also used in the same paper September 30, 1929, front page, the day after the murder, and again February 22, 1931, front page.
